Electra Lady Land

Hey Electrolytes! DJ Electra here. I’m so fired up to be providing your rock tunes week after week. I learned to love music by listening to my parent’s and their friends vinyl records in the late 70s and early 80s. I always had a set of big headphones on while I danced along to some rocking tunes. Elton John, Billy Joel, Kenny Rogers, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Janet Jackson were some of my favorites. I also loved dancing and became a competitive dancer by the age of 12.

My first concert was The Beach Boys at the county fair. When I was 14 I picked up the bass guitar and started lessons at my high school. Going to high school in Orange County, CA, I had tons of live shows to attend. During that time I was really into the Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Doubt, Sublime, Grateful Dead, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog, Beastie Boys, Janes Addiction, LED Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, reggae and punk rock. I even went to the same high school as Zach de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine.

In the early 90’s I met my first band mates and we started a Smashing Pumpkins cover band. I also played in a punk band. We didn’t have much of a following but it was great to play bass on a stage! When I moved away for college, my roommate Nicole, best friend Corey, and fellow bass player Dan introduced me to a ton of new music including Stevie Wonder, A Tribe Called Quest, Buena Vista Social Club, The Police, De La Soul, drum and bass/ambient, electronic and more! I even smoked a joint with Steel Pulse before their show once and won a bong on a radio trivia contest in Humboldt. Being a DJ is a dream come true for me after retiring as a nurse. Thanks for coming along with me to Electra Lady Land!
